Tom Barman’s photography is an example in the art of the detour. Stepping away from the loud narrative structures of his songwriting and filmmaking, his lens zeroes in on the abstract, accidental poetry of the everyday.
As the frontman of the legendary indie rock band dEUS since 1989, Tom Barman has shaped the European alternative music landscape, selling over 1.7 million albums. His restless creative energy extends into jazz with his four-piece project TaxiWars, as well as into filmmaking, having written and directed the acclaimed 2003 feature film Any Way the Wind Blows. A deep, lifelong immersion in the visual arts, fueled by decades of relentless international touring, previously led him to curate a landmark exhibition of Belgian art in the Netherlands. This enduring visual fixation culminated in his debut photographic book and solo exhibition, Hurry Up and Wait, mapping the cinematic, quiet intermediate spaces of a life spent on the move.
